Excursions
Starting point for many unforgettable
excursionsTrümmelbach waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen
valley
Guide Michelin : ***
The Tümmelbach waterfalls are the only
glacier falls in Europe which can be seen
inside the mountain itself. With a
tremendous force the waters of 10 glacier
falls thunder into the valley. The Trümmelbach alone drains the huge glaciers
of the Eiger, Münch and Jungfrau and carries
over 20'000 liters (5,283 gal) of water in
one second.
(Half - day excursion)
Giessbach waterfalls
On lake Brienz. From Axalp the Giessbach
cascades in 14 waterfalls into lake Brienz
400 meters (1,312 ft) below.
(Whole day excursion, combined with an
excursion to Brienz or a boat trip on lake
Brienz)
Blausee (The Blue Lake)
A jewel in the Bernese Alps, the Blausee
lies in neighboring Frutigland. This deep
blue lake, with its crystal - clear water,
is well known for its trout farm. Especially
enjoyable are rowing boat trips on the lake.
St. Bernhard dogs are also bred here.
(Whole day excursion with a trip to
Interlaken)

Journey into the past
Museum of the valley of Lauterbrunnen
The museum, formerly an old mill, is found
below the village church in Lauterbrunnen.
Here you gain an insight into the daily
lives, generations ago, of the inhabitants
of the valley and the mountain villages of
Gimmelwald, Mürren and Wengen .
Old customs and crafts come alive again.
Fascinating is the story of the 200 years
old history of tourism and mountaineering in
our valley.
Open - Air Museum Ballenberg
The Swiss open - air museum of rural
dwellings and life - styles is situated in a
charming setting of over 80 hectares (198
acre). About 60 old farmhouses - rebuilt to
their original state - give one an idea of
the diversity of old Swiss life - styles and
customs.
Old traditional handicrafts such as weaving,
lace - making and basket - making are still
carried out here today. Our tip: Combine
this excursion with a walk through the wood
- carving village of Brienz and with a boat
trip on Lake Brienz back to Interlaken.

Starting point for visits to local towns
Interlaken interesting things to do and see
set between the lakes of Thun and Brienz.
Music festival in summer. Always popular are
tours of Interlaken by horse - driven
carriage.
Spiez
Spiez lies in an idyllic bay
on lake Thun, surrounded by vineyards. The
wine produced here is a rarity. This
picturesque little town is dominated by its
castle and early romaine church where well -
preserved frescoes from the 11th century can
be seen.
Thun
Towering above this busy little town is its
beautiful castle, dating from the 11th
century. Especially worth a visit is the
charming old part of the town. Market days
are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. At
Schloss Schadau, in a lovely park by the
lakeside, is the only Museum of Gastronomy
in Switzerland and a highlight of a visit to
Thun.
Bern
Switzerland's 800 year old capital city.
Here can still be seen the planning and
building methods of a medieval town.
Especially worth a visit: the Cathedral, the
Clock Tower, the Bear Pit and of course the
old arcades of this typical Bernese town.
Under these 6 km (3.7 mi) of arcades are
Bern's lovely shops - also worth a visit on
a rainy day! Recommended are the guided
tours of the city.
